Lemon Raspberry Loaf
~
Again, I miss National Raspberry/Cream Day by less than 24 hours. However, that was not going to stop me from getting Starbucks’ Lemon Raspberry Loaf, a limited-time summer bakery item new to Canada this year. I do not know if they will continue selling this but at least it is not available in the US so I was set on trying this before I leave. It had a very strong lemon flavour, quite sour and acidic yet still refreshing. The raspberry preserve swirled inside was not very overpowering in flavour, with a slightly sweeter taste than the lemon cake and tasted somewhat artificial. The two flavours blended well together. The icing on the top was just that – a perfect complement to an already delicious treat. It was sugary and had great texture, neither too buttery or liquified. There was enough icing to go with the cake, although I could have used more since I love a good icing. The cake was also soft and moist, and tasting like pound cake, it was not too buttery but it certainly was not a light dessert either.
