This was my first time eating a Dunkin’ Donut munchkin. I love Tim Horton’s timbits but those are only available in Canada. Down here in the states, it’s Dunkin’ Donuts, with some different varieties than back home, even though the three flavours I had today were quite familiar.

The Glazed Chocolate Cake Munchkin was by far the best. The cake was dense and sweet but soft and chewy – absolutely perfect for a chocolate cake donut. The amount of glaze was also good. It gave it te extra sweetness that I love without overpowering the chocolate. This one was also nice and round. I guess it is easier to make since its a heavier cake batter than the yeast donut batter.

The second one was the Jelly Filled Munchkin with the confectionary sugar on top. This was quite bad actually. There was barely any jelly in the center and the shape was just off. It also tastes very stale, not freshly made at all. The dough was dry and hard to eat, and without much jelly tasted very bland.

Finally, there was the trusty old Glazed Munchkin. The glaze was again good. While simple, this one was not stale. Perhaps not made the same day but it was certainly still in good, edible condition. The dough is soft and chewy but light and airy at the same time with only the sweetness of the glaze. I liked it – nice and simple, a classic.

I have just never found time to try out some of Dunkin’ Donuts other goodies. I certainly will next year since I will no longer be on a dining plan. I certainly will not miss any of their special occasion donuts!
