T&T Bakery will always be the first place I look when I am craving Asian baked goods. Not only are their products incredibly fresh and tasty, they are also very reasonably priced. For the quality that they offer, their breads are probably the best deal in Greater Vancouver. The one in Yaohan Centre is even better because Richmond is ‘Asian Central,’ and the people here are quite rich so they look for quality over quantity. As such, the T&T in Yaohan just steps up their game and became, in my opinion, the best Asian bakery around.

One of my all time favourites is the 葱花肉松小餐包 (Green Onion Dried Pork Bun). This is not really a small, regular bun. Rather, it is more like a large loaf with mini rolls stuck together, baked, and folded into the packaging. Actually, the Chinese description – which directly translates into ‘mini dinner rolls’ is quite accurate. It is considered as one of their ‘specialty breads’ despite the simple concept. Mom specifically picked out for me a slightly under-baked one. I just love it when the onions are not dried yet and that makes the pork fluff damp as well. All of it is then just stuck to the bread which is also moist and soft. The dough, especially when somewhat squished together, is perfectly chewy and sticky – just the way I like it. I have this huge thing for soft and moist and sticky bread, even if it is not lightly sweetened. In this case, it was just regular, unflavoured bread but the texture was just ‘oh so good’! The scallions’ aroma really contrasted but at the same time blended nicely with the flavour of the pork fluff. Considering all the dinner rolls and breads I have had, I would substitute this for every one of them when it is baked nice and moist like this one!
