“Poison Apples” Apple Cupcake with Apple Buttercream

In honour of Once Upon A Time filming yet again in lovely, historic, and quaint Steveston Village, Bell’s Bake Shop decided to bake a “Poison Apples” Apple Cupcake with Apple Buttercream. I think it ties in perfectly with the show, which is mostly a spin-off of Snow White among other fairytales. Loving this show as it often reminds me of home, I just could not pass on this most beautiful of all summer specials. It was a white, apple-flavoured cupcake but put in red cups. Along with the bright red sugar sprinkle topping, the entire cupcake looked like an extremely bright apple.

The cake was not sweet but did not taste like apples either. I did not really get much of any flavour and it was more like a denser white cake to me. It was moist and soft, although the edges were a little drier. The buttercream was sugary and very sweet, especially with all the sugar sprinkles on top. However, the pink frosting also did not taste much like apples, although perhaps a tad bit more than the cake. It was slightly tart but mostly sweet and a little too light and fluffy in texture. Perhaps it was whipped a bit too much, but at least it was not oily and still just as sugary as before. Overall, it was still a good cupcake, though certainly not their best taste-wise. However, visually, it was bright, cheery, and certainly suitable for the excitement of the show!
