Falafel over Rice
~

I got hungry before class so I decided to stop by New York Gyro. There are always so many people lining up outside this food cart so I decided it was a good idea to go at 4 p.m. when there is not such a huge crowd, though there were still two students in front of me, surprise surprise. The owner had an accent so it was a little difficult asking him about menu options, but I managed.

In the end, I went with the Falafel over Rice. The six huge falafels were made on the spot and quickly fried. They were mostly made from fava beans and had a greenish color, different from the regular chickpeas. However, I quite liked the rough texture. The rice was nothing special but I loved the vegetables, both steamed and raw. The lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and onions were refreshing and crunchy but I absolutely loved the snap peas, green beans, and carrots. Everything was smothered in both the tahini and the hot sauce. It was really spicy and my mouth was burning but the creamy white sauce was a nice contrast. For $5, I had a great meal in class. It was definitely nice to switch up the flavors a little.
