Bangga Bangga, Honolulu HI
We returned to Ala Moana Center yet again for lunch. Mom decided on another bowl of Kim Chee Ramen. It was just spicy and too good to resist. I decided to try out one of the stands in the middle, Bangga Bangga, and sample for myself the Hawaiian special version of sashimi – poke.
The Poke Salad had poke – marinated raw tuna – on top of a bed of lettuce. The tuna was so fresh yet flavourful. Sashimi and wasabi can get a little boring sometimes so this was definitely a much-appreciated twist for me. The roe on top was also a nice textural addition. I asked for it with the most popular Dynamite Sauce, which is spicy mayo on top of the salad with soy sauce and sesame oil on the side. It was aromatic, salty, and with a little kick. However, I would have liked just the poke and lettuce by itself so the flavour can really stand out.
